Let's pretend aka WWYD?

Say you were a month out from major surgery, getting there but still sore and easily fatigued. And you had two broken bones in your foot.

Add in a 7 month old and a 3 1/2 year old.

Now, say your husband in an attempt to do something nice and fun for the family bought tickets to a Major League Baseball game.

The game is a one hour drive from your house, takes place two hours before your 3 year old's bedtime, and will be at least an hour and a half drive from your home.

And while he did get 4 seats, they are tiny and in the full sun.

Would you suck it up and go, hoping for the best but knowing at best you'll have a good time and be thoroughly exhausted at the end ? Or would you try to encourage him to go and take the three year old, and maybe the thirteen year old nephew and BIL?

Just wondering.

It t'were me? I'd say "Have a great time honey!" Maybe find someone to take the little ones and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet and put my feet up. :0)

Yikes. That's a tough one, but if I was in your condition, I doubt I'd go. We took the boys to a baseball game in April and it was fun, but really exhausting. You need rest, not a big day out. I appreciate what he's trying to do, but he's obviously not understanding how sick you've been and how hard it is for you to recover right now. I'd take the afternoon with just one kid and call it a semi-break. Just make sure you let him know you appreciate the effort a lot, you just don't feel up to it. Maybe that will help get it through his man-skull that you need REST.

Oh, and I should add - don't "encourage" him to do anything. TELL him what you need and what's going to happen. If you decide it's too much, tell him, "Thank you so much for planning this honey, but I'm having a really hard time recovering from everything and I'm utterly exhausted on a normal, good day. I'd love to be with you, but I think it would be best for me if you take the older kid and ask our nephew and BIL if they'd like to join you. I'm definitely not up to a big event like that and frankly, I'd welcome the break I'd get with just having the baby to take care of. I need rest!"

Yep, I'd send him on his way with the BIL, nephew, and the kids (one or both). Maybe both because, that way, you can get a bit of peace and quiet...plus, he'd have another adult (BIL) with him to help keep the ratio of adult to little people who need assistance in check.
